Uxbridge Scenery

One of the many interesting sights you will come across while driving the highways and bi-ways of Uxbridge Ontario. This particular bridge is located in Leaskdale where LUCY MAUD MONTGOMERY lived for over 15 years while writing eleven of her twenty-two novels, including "Anne of the Island" (1915) and "Anne's House of Dreams".

Hi Kathy,

I love these old wooden bridges. Would love to know more about this. When it was built and the history behind it. Maybe you can suggest a link. Many Thanks.

Kathy, I love those beautiful old, stately bridges.  It reminds me of The Bridges of Madison County!

That's so cool, Kathy.  You don't see many covered bridges anymore.

Kathy - Does Leaskdale get many Japanese and other tourists who are looking for anything related to Anne of Green Gables and Lucy Maud Montgomery?  Prince Edward Island gets a large number of tourists who visit various Anne sites.

It's worth the drive to Leaskdale to visit a covered bridge.

Thanks all for your comments and interest

For those who expressed and interest in more information ...

It is a reproduction that is large enough to allow a golf cart to cross ...

It is located on private property but can be seen from the road in Leaskdale ...

Kathy,

You really take the entire concept of hyper-local content to the next level.

Good for you.

Richard - even the "new" ones are interesting

Georgina - it is a small stream

Brian -it's is amazing what is there to be seen if only we slowed down long enough to smell the roses

Leah - Uxbridge has a lot of ties to the series ... The outdoor set for the TV series was in Uxbridge ... they created a little "village" on a farm just south of town

Kathy,

How charming. A great focal point for this area and a great addition to the countryside. Quite nice. :)

Steve - The Leaskdale "manse" home of Lucy Maud Montgomery along with the historic St. Paul's Presbyterian Church where her husband was the minister is a great tourist attraction especially with all the events the The Lucy Maud Montgomery Society of Ontario put on each year.
